Creative Date Ideas for Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and, even if you are in a relationship, there are those of you who would just rather skip February 14th altogether than be forced to listen to sappy love songs and smooch by candlelight. Sometimes the holiday just seems so predictable. I mean, why sit through the same old boring dinner date with flowers and chocolates that we’ve all seen played out a million times when you can show a little creativity and take it to the next level? Do something different this Valentine’s; access your adventurous side and try something new with these non-traditional Valentine’s Day dates. Here are our ideas for creative dates on Valentine’s Day. You can thank me later!

* Make a scavenger hunt around town. Create a scavenger hunt to memorable places for you and your date. Your game could include the place where you met, where you had your first date, the place where you had your first kiss, or simply your favorite park or ice cream place. Have your significant other follow the clues you created for a meaningful day, all while reliving everything you know you love.

* Spend the day at the arcade. Take your loved one to the arcade to play some video games. What’s more romantic than blowing up aliens by the truckload? Spend the whole day there and try out every game at least once. (Don’t forget to grab a roll of quarters.) Battle it out in a friendly Dance Dance Revolution competition or take turns playing the classic Pac-Man game. Winner gets to choose where you eat for dinner!

* Go go-kart racing. Find the nearest go-kart racing track and take a spin. You’ll feel the need for speed, the rush of excitement (not unlike a first date!), and you might even impress your date with your dare-devil driving skills. If it’s early in you and your partner’s relationship, racing around the track is great way to avoid awkward silences. Afterwards, you can talk about how it went. Instant ice-breaker!

* Volunteer. Spend your Valentine’s Day helping others. Volunteer at a soup kitchen, food shelf, or domestic violence shelter. Showing love to those who don’t have it is a great way to connect with your significant other. Making other people happy will lift your mood and make you feel grateful for what you have.

* Sing at a karaoke bar. Show your musical talent (or lack thereof) by belting out a tune at your local karaoke night. Why not sing the classic duet “I Got You Babe” by Sonny and Cher? If you’re not gutsy enough to make it up on stage, you’ll still have fun watching other people struggle to hit the high notes.

* Skydive. Nothing says I love you like hurling your body out of an airplane at 12,000 feet. This activity is not for the faint-hearted, but it’s worth it for you thrill-seekers. You can even record your jump on video or have photos taken so you’ll always remember it. Want to feel like you’re skydiving without actually doing it? Try indoor skydiving. It takes place in a vertical wind tunnel that feels totally realistic. Have all the fun, without the risk!
